Imagine what it would be like to see your friend slipping into a depression, but not know where to get help.  Or to see your beautiful teenager struggling with body image and eating disorders, but being told that her condition is not yet severe enough to qualify for programs through the healthcare system.  Imagine that it is your child whose shyness makes him an easy target for bullies and you don’t know how to build up his confidence.  Finally, imagine that you and your spouse have suddenly hit a time in your relationship where everything is a battle and you just can’t stand the fighting any more.  You want to work it out, but you both seem stuck in a pattern of conflict.

Every day these serious problems and many more are successfully solved with the help of a professional counsellor.   For people who have comfortable incomes and employee benefits, professional counselling is readily available.  But for those on a limited budget, the expense of counselling may be completely out of reach. 

At Cornerstone our mandate is to ensure that people in mental distress will have access to professional services that will provide relief and help them begin emotional healing.  To ensure our fees are affordable, we have established a Compassion Fund that provides fee subsidies based on household income.  Last year 75% of our clients received the help they needed thanks to our Compassion Fund.
