Children and Adolescents

There are few things more difficult for a parent than to watch their child struggle mentally or emotionally.  Just like adults, children experience grief and loss, depression and anger management issues.  Some children are unable to make friends because of poor social skills or behaviour problems, other children are bullied at school and are wounded by cruel words or physical aggression.

At Cornerstone we understand that sometimes children need help.  Although children often struggle to talk about highly emotional topics, play therapy can help.   With the help of a trained therapist, children can express themselves and their problems in a manner that is safe and familiar to them.

Cornerstone can help your child cope with:

  • abuse/trauma
  • adoption and attachment issues
  • anxiety
  • depression
  • behavioral problems
  • coping with parental divorce
  • self-esteem
  • anger
  • adjustment to change
  • grief and loss
  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder

Adolescents and teens are notoriously difficult to parent.  They push the boundaries, fight for independence and then seem clingy all in the same day.  Although some of these behaviours can be a normal part of growing up, things can escalate to a level that is unhealthy for the child and the parent.  We can help you and your child develop boundaries, communicate effectively, and work through past issues.  Call our office to talk to our intake worker about the counsellor that would be the best match for your challenging teenager.

Cornerstone also provides assessment services for children and adolescents including the Cognitive/Learning ability assessment and Emotional/Behavioral assessment.
