A Two-Day Workshop to Enhance Your Communication Skills

This two-day workshop presents practical communication tools and techniques. Participants will learn how to deal with friends, spouses, parents,

children, and co-workers in an effective manner that promotes understanding and reduces stress and tension.

 

Day One

 

Understanding Communication:  Topics include definitions, understanding one’s strengths and weaknesses, the communication process, blockers to effective communication, the role of self esteem, communication problems, characteristics of good and bad communication, creating trust, positive and negative feedback.

Speaking Skills: Learn to express yourself tactfully and assertively, develop guidelines for speaking, review questioning and clarifying techniques, get good answers with good questions, learn techniques to enhance your speaking .

 

Day Two

 

Improving Listening Skills:  Definitions – listening and hearing, barriers to effective listening, listening actively, stages of listening, guidelines for active listening, ten ways to improve your listening skills, basic and advanced listening skills.

 

Understanding Non-Verbal Clues: nonverbal communication, understanding non-verbal clues, mysteries of eye language,

 facial expressions, body language, hands and arms gestures, body gestures and use of space, matching body language to your message. 

Facilitator:  Mary Fahmy, MA, Registered Psycho Social WorkerCertified Canadian Counsellor.  Mary has served on Cornerstone’s staff for six years, leads the Anger Management Program, and teaches in the City University Graduate Program and at the University of Alberta.
